A beautiful and sophisticated large stitched silk Kantha embroidery by the late Sreelata Sarkar.
Sreelata Sarkar was instrumental in reviving the art of the kantha tradition. Kantha as an art form owes its origins to Bengal, unfolding and expressing the rural village stories.
Sreelata a graduate of Kala Bhawan, she held the first exhibition of kantha in kolkata in 1979. she borrowed from old folk motifs and incorporated a few new ones - all in the same traditional folk style.
Her work is from 1979-1990s, she died 1999.
