This impressively large copper repousse pumpkin box set is known as a hip sla, (nesting boxes), the large outer container made to contain a much smaller box and other articles necessary for chewing betel. Hip sla of this size are extremely rare. The scalloped bodies consists of a series of well executed foliate repousse with a large looped stem handle that secures a large number of decorative silver filigree leaves fanning out from around its base to lie in a triple layer across the top of the container.
