Mexican jeweler Matilde Poulat, one of Mexico's most influential designers, opened her silver workshop in the 1930's, producing beautiful, delicate textural and intricate pieces. Trained as a painter, Poulat adopted the name "Matl," (the Aztec word for "water") for her work. After her death in 1960, her nephew Ricardo Salas, who she trained, continued to run the shop and created pieces in the Mati style for many years
